There are so many different goat raising resources out there. Collected here is what I have found most useful to date.
Goat raising is a learning process - continued research and dedicated learning is key to keeping happy, healthy goats. Hopefully this page here serves as a good place to get you started, or to keep you continuing, on your goat raising journey.

Preparing for your First Goats
A short list of supplies that I have found necessary to keeping happy, healthy goats. There are sure to be more supplies you'll accumulate, but these are the most important and a good foundation to get you started out.

Goat Care pamphlets
There's a lot I wish someone had told me before I started raising goats! So, to that end I typed up these pamphlets and filled them with that 'need to know' information that years of goat raising, talking with experienced breeders, and lots of research teaches you.
These are intended to be a tri-fold pamphlet. Printing it out, double-sided, will make it easiest to read. I am not a vet! Put as much or as little stock in these pamphlets as you think they deserve. If nothing else, they should serve as a place to get your started in your research into how to raise (or how to continue to raise) healthy goats. |
Parasite control
|
integrated parasite control
The Shire Ridge herd is managed under an integrated parasite control program - in this way, sick or wormy goats are targeted specifically and treated appropriately, as apposed to blindly treating the herd as a whole. 30% of the herd will have 80% of the worms - over treating and mistreating leads to drug-resistant worms which, eventually, will never be able to be killed with any drug on the market. Here, wormy goats are targeted through a variety of tests, including regular FAMACHA scores, to keep parasites at a properly manageable level.
